World Days to add to your Student Calendar

Nowadays there seems to be a designated day for just about everything and it’s pretty hard to keep track of them all. Different days are important to people for various reasons, but what days are worth noting as a student, and how can keeping track of these days benefit our student experience?

JANUARY

21st January is National Hugging Day, and being a student away from home often means you are receiving less emotional affection than when you are surrounded by family and friends from back home. So on this day make sure to offer a hug to friends and housemates, because people usually need one more than you’d think!

MARCH

8th March is International Women’s Day. This is an important day to recognise and celebrate all the women and female students in our lives who are achieving greatness and success.

31st March is International Transgender Day of Visibility. This is a day which enables us to celebrate and accept all the transgender students in our community and university.

APRIL

2nd April is Autism Awareness Day. The importance of awareness days is to recognise and educate ourselves on the differences and struggles fellow students with Autism are experiencing. You can use this day to talk with autistic friends and ask them how best you can support them at univeristy, as well as listen to their voices to respect their opinions.

SEPTEMBER

4th September is World Sexual Health Day. This day is important as it reminds people to get tested, to check in on their sexual health and be mindful of looking after themselves. University can be a place where sexual activity can occur, so its important for students to have this reminder to test reguarly to prevent the developing of serious infections or diseases.

OCTOBER

1st October is International Coffee Day. We all know that most students love coffee as caffeine plays a vital role in getting those last minute assignments in on time! Make sure to add International coffee day to your student calendar as you may be able to grab a cheeky discount at your local cafe if you check for adveritsements or even ask on the day! Who doesnt love a free coffee?

2nd October is World No Alcohol Day. Alcohol is the second drink that comes to mind when we think of a student lifestyle, so it’s alwasy a good idea to take a day with friends to say no to alcohol and reset your body before the next night out.

NOVEMBER

1st November is World Vegan Day which is a helpful one to have in a student calendar as you can cook a vegan meal for your housemates and be more sustainable for a day.

13th November is World Kindness Day, and this is pretty self explanitory. We all tend to get wrapped up in our heads sometimes, stress gets the better of students and life can bring us down. But random acts of kindess are what bring us back up, and this day is here to remind you to try and show a bit of kindess to someone this day, because you never know how much you may be improving their day!

17th November is International Students’ Day – the most important day of all! Us students work hard to get to where we want to be, and it’s important that we, and the rest of the world, take a day to recognise this hard work and effort we put in day and day out to be the future generation of our planet.
