How Jamworks helps disabled students take better notes and reduce stress

Taking notes during lectures can be overwhelming, especially for disabled students who struggle with concentration, processing speed, or anxiety. The pressure to capture key points while staying engaged often leads to frustration, missed information, and increased stress.

To understand how Jamworks makes note taking easier, we spoke with an Assistive Technology (AT) trainer who works closely with disabled students. He shared his thoughts on how Jamworks supports students in their academic journey:

“Overall, I think it’s intuitive, very helpful, and has great inbuilt help systems. It’s a user-friendly experience, which I appreciate.”

The challenge: Keeping up with lectures

For many students, keeping up with lectures is difficult—not just because of the speed of information but also because it’s hard to know when something important is being discussed. The AT trainer explained:

“The biggest challenge is often knowing when specific important information is being presented.”

This uncertainty can lead to gaps in students’ notes, making it harder to study later. On top of that, trying to write everything down while staying focused can be exhausting:

“Concentration can also be an issue—distractions can cause students to miss out on information.”

Without a reliable way to capture key points, students may fall behind, leading to increased stress and anxiety.

How Jamworks helps disabled students capture key information

Jamworks makes note taking easier by automatically identifying key moments in a lecture. This means students can focus on listening and engaging with the material without the pressure of writing everything down.

“Students might miss critical details, so helping them identify those key points is valuable. Features like being able to press a button and easily return to recordings are really helpful for students with concentration challenges.”

The AT trainer also highlighted how Jamworks ensures academic integrity by only pulling information directly from the lecturer’s content—not external sources:

“I’m also fond of the AI system. I think it’s an excellent feature, and I appreciate how it ensures academic integrity by only pulling information directly from the lecturer’s content. That helps safeguard the system, which is important.”

Supporting students with specific learning differences

Jamworks is designed to support a wide range of learning needs. The AT trainer explained how different features can help students with specific challenges:

“Students with anxiety don’t have to worry about getting everything down in a lecture, and those with ADHD benefit from the system’s ability to minimise distractions. The transcript feature is also helpful for students who struggle with writing, as they can rely on the system to handle that for them.”

Additionally, features like Key Points, Automatic Highlights, and Bite-Sized Summaries make reviewing easier:

“These features are really helpful because they allow students to quickly find the information they need. When revising, they may not want to go through all the details, so being able to access summaries and key sections easily makes a huge difference.”

By taking the pressure off real-time note taking, Jamworks allows students to revisit lectures at their own pace, ensuring they don’t miss anything important.

The impact

By reducing the stress of note taking, Jamworks helps students feel more in control of their learning. The AT trainer emphasised the impact on students’ confidence:

“In terms of reducing stress, Jamworks helps students by removing the worry about taking notes during lectures. They can focus on engaging with the content and enjoy the session more, knowing that the system has them covered with the notes.”

Beyond its features, the simple and intuitive design makes it easy for students to get started:

“From my experience, students can sometimes be hesitant or nervous about using new software, so a user-friendly interface really helps. The quirky aspect of showing the robot is a nice touch—it makes it feel friendly and approachable, which is great.”

Making learning more accessible for all students

By removing barriers to note taking, Jamworks empowers students to focus on what truly matters—learning. Whether it’s reducing stress, improving concentration, or making revision easier, Jamworks helps students feel more confident in their studies.
